Hyderabad, India – The Telugu film industry mourns the loss of Allu Kanakaratnam, the family matriarch and wife of legendary actor Allu Ramalingaiah, who passed away at the age of 94. Her passing has brought together the entire film community in tribute to a woman who stood as a pillar of one of South India’s most influential cinematic dynasties.
As the grandmother of actors Allu Arjun (National Award winner for Pushpa: The Rise) and Ram Charan (global star of RRR), Kanakaratnam was more than a family figurehead—she represented the enduring legacy of the Allu family’s contributions to Indian cinema.
A Legacy of Strength and Grace
Married to Padma Shri awardee Allu Ramalingaiah—a pioneering comedian and character actor in Telugu cinema—Kanakaratnam supported her husband’s career during the golden era of Tollywood. Her strength and dedication helped cultivate a family that would become central to the Indian entertainment industry.
Her son-in-law, Megastar Chiranjeevi, personally oversees the funeral arrangements. In an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), Chiranjeevi wrote:

Industry Comes to a Pause
Out of respect, several high-profile film schedules have been adjusted:
- Allu Arjun paused shooting in Mumbai for his upcoming film with director Atlee to return to Hyderabad.
- Ram Charan canceled the shoot of Peddi in Mysore to be with the family.
- Political and film figures including Pawan Kalyan and Naga Babu are also expected to pay their respects.
Funeral and Tributes
The final rites will be held today in Kokapet. The family will receive visitors at producer Allu Aravind’s residence from 9 AM onward, where friends, colleagues, and admirers may offer their condolences.
