Considering 83 is based on a true tale, the filmmakers had to acquire the rights to make a film about it, as well as pay a significant sum to former cricketers to get their side of the story. According to sources, the producers have paid an amount of Rs. 15 crores to former Indian cricketers who were members of the 1983 World Cup-winning side, with Kapil Dev receiving the largest portion of this sum.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the film’s producers paid Rs 15 crore to the genuine 1983 World Cup-winning team for 83. While the rest of the squad earned Rs 10 crore, former India captain Kapil Dev, who led the team to victory, received the highest amount of Rs 5 crore.

By quoting a report, the source said,

“Before making the film it is important to acquire the rights of the subject and the individual stories of the players the film is based on, especially when it revolves around real-life people of incidents. Keeping this in mind, (makers) paid the original winning team of the 1983 World Cup approximately Rs 15 crore, while Kapil Dev walked away with the lion’s share of around Rs 5 crore for his go-ahead.”
