Zoe Saldana of Guardians of the Galaxy fame has allegedly been cast as the lead in the new Paramount+ original series Lioness, which is written by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan. The 43-year-old actress will also serve as the show’s executive producer.
Zoe Saldana will play Joe, a “strong-willed, hard-nosed, station chief of the CIA’s Lioness programme,” according to Collider. She is in charge of an undercover military unit tasked with apprehending some of the world’s most deadly terrorists. The Lioness programme was designed by the CIA to honour local Middle Eastern norms by having female troops hunt local ladies rather than male recruits.
Tom Brady authored the feature film and also will act as showrunner. Nicole Kidman’s production firm, Blossom Films, is scheduled to executive produce, as well as filming is planned to commence in June of this year.
“I am a huge fan of Taylor Sheridan’s work and am honoured to help him tell his next amazing story with Lioness,” Tom Brady said. “Taylor has created an epic, gripping, global spy thriller centred on a group of complex, strong women, and I can’t imagine anyone better to help bring these characters to life than fellow executive producers Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña.”
From James Cameron’s Avatar to Avengers: Infinity War as well as Avengers: Endgame, Zoe Saldana has worked on some of the highest-grossing films ever filmed. The actress’s first significant television role will be in the forthcoming series. In James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, she also played Gamora. She will next be seen in The Adam Project, a Netflix film starring Ryan Reynolds, which will be released next month.
